SSHS Library Services & Programming

The Saint Library has lots of programs and resources available for the students of SSHS! We are a full-service library for both research and pleasure reading.  We have non-fiction books available for checkout as well as access to many online databases for research. The library website is a one-stop research resource for students. All your research needs can be met at the Saint Library! We also offer a wide variety of fiction for students to check out for pleasure reading as well as a dozen teen interest magazine subscriptions. We have a limited supply of calculators available for student check out and we sell some basic school supplies. There is a Maker Space available for student use with a multitude of craft supplies for students who feel inspired to be creative. In addition, we sponsor a wide range of programming throughout the year to appeal to many different interests. The Saint Library has it all!

From Book to Big Screen

Every year, the library sponsors a film series called “From Book to Big Screen.” Each month we feature a movie that is based on a young adult novel. It normally takes place one Friday of each month, except December. The movie begins after school and is completely free. We also serve free popcorn to all students who stay. Some examples of movies we have shown include:
  • The Fault in Our Stars
  • Everything Everything
  • The Hate U Give
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Saint Summer Library

Every summer, the library hosts special evenings at the Saint Summer Library series. These events are completely free and open to the entire community. During these evenings, we have food and activities that revolve around a particular book or theme. Some of our past evenings have included:
  • Harry Potter
  • Percy Jackson
  • Luau in the Library
  • Library of the Living Dead
  • Lord of the Rings
Students are invited to beat the heat and join in the fun or just come check out a book. In addition to fun themed food, we have trivia contests, crafts, photo booths and super giveaways!

Clubs & Special Events

The library hosts 2 clubs--Animé Club and Book Club. We also celebrate different events
throughout the school year, such as
Teen Read Week, Banned Books Week, March Book Madness and others. These weeks often feature special contests, giveaways or costume days.
Once or twice a year, we host bookfairs at Barnes and Noble in Hickory. It's not only a chance for students to come out and support the library, but it's also an opportunity for students to earn service hours for Beta Club, Key Club, Juniorettes and other clubs that require service hours.

Student Library Assistants

Students who are interested may apply to be a student media assistant during their junior or senior year. These students learn about running the library and help to design and plan many of the special events and features in the library. This is a credited class for students with a regular numerical grade.
